Neutropenia (low white blood cells) – very common and can be severe

Symptoms may include:

Premedication with antihistamines and corticosteroids is required to reduce this risk

Monitor creatinine levels and urine output
Numbness, tingling, or pain in hands and feet
May worsen with continued dosing
Rare cases of interstitial pneumonia or pulmonary fibrosis have occurred
These may not cause symptoms but require regular monitoring:
Low neutrophil, red cell, or platelet counts
Elevated liver enzymes (AST, ALT)
Elevated creatinine
Electrolyte imbalances (especially potassium, calcium, and sodium)
Given alongside Jevtana, prednisone can add:
Increased blood sugar
Insomnia
Mood changes
Increased risk of infection
Weight gain
Seek immediate care if you notice:
Fever or chills
Signs of infection (sore throat, cough, painful urination)
Severe diarrhea or vomiting
Trouble breathing or chest pain
Uncontrolled bleeding or bruising
New or worsening numbness or weakness
To reduce risks your doctor may monitor;
Patients should be pre-medicated with antihistamines, corticosteroids, and anti-nausea drugs before each infusion.
Frequent CBC (complete blood count) tests are essential, especially before each cycle.
Hydration is important to prevent kidney issues.
Growth factor support (e.g., G-CSF) may be given to reduce the risk of neutropenia.
