How Fidaxomicin Works:

• Mechanism: Inhibits bacterial RNA polymerase, stopping C. diff bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow
• Targeted action: Has minimal systemic absorption, so it works primarily in the gastrointestinal tract where C. diff infections occur

Adult Dosing:

• Initial C. diff infection: 200 mg orally twice daily for 10 days. If treatment response is delayed, your provider may extend therapy up to 14 days.
• Recurrent C. diff infection: Either 200 mg twice daily for 10 days, or 200 mg twice daily for 5 days followed by 200 mg once every other day for 20 days (extended-pulsed regimen)
