Vumerity (diroximel fumarate) is a medication used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults. Like all medications, Vumerity can cause side effects. It’s important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of Vumerity with your healthcare provider before starting treatment. Here is a list of possible side effects of Vumerity:

Common Side Effects:

  • Flushing (redness, itching, or tingling of the skin)
  • Stomach problems, such as diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain
  • Itchy, red, or painful skin rash

Serious Side Effects (Rare):

  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Liver problems, including liver damage or liver failure, which may cause yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or pain in the upper right abdomen
  • Severe skin reactions, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, which may cause blistering or peeling of the skin
  • PML (progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy), a rare brain infection that can be fatal

Other Side Effects:

  • Decreased white blood cell count
  • Increased blood creatinine phosphokinase levels
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Herpes zoster (shingles)
  • Decreased lymphocyte count
  • Depression
  • Hair thinning or loss
